As of today, the epic funk/prog rock fusion track that I worked on for Tom Wills is officially available for purchase everywhere! He is a genre spanning session guitarist who works on anything from jazz and fusion right through to extreme metal and I personally think that expressive material such as this song is where his playing really shines the most – Tom and I have collaborated on a number of songs over the last few years and this could well be our most adventurous to-date – though we’ve already begun discussing what the next song will be!
“What The Funk!” is Tom’s first venture into instrumental progressive rock infused funk in the style of Guthrie Govan and his work with The Aristocrats.
I recorded my parts for this song in the Autumn of last year. Tom gave me free reign to write the parts that I felt were most appropriate for the piece and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out, it was also the first recorded work to feature my custom Flynn snare drum. Birmingham based session bassist and recording engineer Dan Willett (of Univibe Audio) provided the funky low-end bass parts.
If you’d like to purchase a copy of “What The Funk!” you can download it via iTunes, Amazon and many other platforms and if you’re interested in hiring either Tom or Dan, please check out their own sites.
